On Optimism

Khaki Brown Pink Winter Outfit Bow FlatsDon’t ever become a pessimist… a pessimist is correct oftener than an optimist, but an optimist has more fun, and neither can stop the march of events.

I’ll be honest, staying optimistic these last few weeks has been hard.

My life is far more complicated than I care to admit. My brain feels frazzled and wrung out most days. I’m tired, always behind on work, and almost always forgetting something.

Just a typical twenty-something really.

But lately I’ve been reminding myself of a few very important truths:

– I’ll never feel caught up on my work. Ever. I own my own business — I doubt I’ll ever feel like I’ve gotten enough done for it.

– I’ll always feel overwhelmed. We live in an age of extreme stimulation with so many platforms and layers — feeling lost in it all is normal and totally ok.

– I’ll never catch up on sleep. I’m a workaholic with insomnia issues, after all.

– I’ll always have an arsenal of tricks to help me deal with depression and to help boost my creativity. Use them. And use them often.

– I’ll always have my handsome husband and pugs to keep me grounded and smiling. Thank goodness.

Optimism is something I struggle with but it’s always my goal! Life is never perfect. Life has a lot of layers. Life is complicated. Non-linear. Unfair.

But there’s a lot to love and appreciate about it — it’s all about viewing life with some calmness, humor, and playfulness.

How do you stay optimistic in this modern world of ours?

Hahhaha, omg! I’m sorry, but yep, I feel exactly like you! Those could be all my own words. 😀
You’re so right, when you’re your own boss, sleep is so “overrated” and you never get enough of it and no matter how much work you do, you are never caught up with all of it.
But then again… If this is the life I chose and it still makes me happy and creatively free, I’m fine on those compromises. Optimism is the right attitude to have. 🙂

  • I know how you feel – staying optimistic is tough! Meanwhile pecissim is easy, it’s so damn easy. But I like your quote, optimists probably do have more fun and it’s probably worth it to try your hardest.
