Remember a time when the trees weren’t bare? Remember when Nature had color?
Ha, yea… me neither.
Some years I embrace winter whole-heartedly but this year I can’t seem to stop missing warm weather and the vibrancy it brings to life. After escaping to the Riviera Maya for New Years, coming home has been hard. Seasonal depression has arrived and the fact that I still have a small tan from Mexico only makes it worse. So I decided to pull out this autumn outfit from a few weeks ago and give you my three best tips for fighting seasonal depression in Chicago:
1. Have a drink (or two… or three if the depression is really strong) at a tiki bar.
My favorites here in Chicago are Lost Lake (addicted to their banana daiquiri) and Three Dots and a Dash. Sipping your winter sorrows away with a fancy, flower-filled concoction almost feels like a mini island escape…
2. Wear red lipstick.
I told you last winter that this was one of my favorite tricks to perk up the winter gloom and for good reason — it actually works! Layering on a rouge hue, like my all-time favorite, somehow always manages to perk me up and give me a much-needed boost of confidence to face the icy chill with a swipe of EPIC color.
3. Book a warm vacation.
Chicagoans leave the Midwest EN MASSE during the winter. Somehow an escape, however brief, can be a necessary reminder that summer will come again. And hey, at least you can come home tanned and relaxed! Just don’t forget to pack your warm-weather essentials.
