There’s really nothing in life like dressing up. Some people loath the process but I embrace it whole-heartedly. Any excuse to don a cocktail dress, slip on a pair of pumps and wear a bold lip!
When I worked in finance, I had no choice but to learn to love dressing up in general. No client is going to take you seriously if you’re in a crop top and affectionately destroyed jeans, as fun as they are to wear. So I had to learn to play with professional silhouettes and to wear pumps for ten-consecutive hours without hobbling by the end.
And now that I own my own business I miss the constant excuses to slip into a pencil dress and get a little dolled up. I miss it so much I practically invent reasons to get a little fancy.
Did someone say coffee date?
Sounds like I should wear my Prada Pumps!
Funnily enough, getting dressed up for casual meetings has actually brought me good business. Because the truth is — you really can have anything you want in life if you dress for it. If you dress like a one-woman-powerhouse, people are surprisingly impressed since so few of us take the time to leave the house looking polished and professional.
There really is something to be said for putting in that little extra effort!
