The Winchester Chicago

The Winchester Chicago By now my love affair with breakfast food and brunch ought to be pretty evident here on Sed Bona. So when I heard there was a little spot near the Ukrainian Village that had LEGENDARY waffles, you no doubt understand that I simply could not resist their magical pull. I met Shaheen and Gigi at The Winchester on the first really chilly day of October. We were all thankful for some breakfast food to soothe us after the shock of the weather and the Winchester’s warm, minimal decor was the perfect morning jolt.  The Winchester Restaurant Chicago The Winchester Chicago Restaurant Review The space is has clean aesthetic consisting mostly of rich woods with industrial accents. Winchester Chicago Review Chicago's The Winchester RestaurantWith breakfast, is there anything more zen than a simple no-fuss atmosphere?Coffee at the Winchester Hot Tea at the Winchester Chicago Their varieties of loose leaf tea blends are particularly lovely and perfect for a blustery morning. Waffles for Brunch at the Winchester The Winchester Chicago Breakfast Waffles But it’s Winchester’s famous waffles that inspired our journey that day. Chewy, Belgian-style waffles with a beautiful old-school malty flavor dotted with pearlized sugar and browned to perfection in a waffle iron. A signature of the restaurant, my waffle-snob mentality was FLOORED by these babies. So delicious and crusty that you can eat them without any syrup, butter, jam, etc. I would like to go back and grab a bag of these to take home and freeze for busy mornings when I want something to snack on with my coffee. Chicago Breakfast Quiche and Waffles with CoffeeThe Winchester Breakfast QuicheThen our breakfast entrées arrived. I love a good quiche and The Winchester’s was homemade perfection, served with a lightly dressed kale salad (yum!) and large rounds of crisped potatoes.
Breakfast at the Winchester Avocado Toast The Winchester Chicago Breakfast Eggs and Smoked Trout Gigi opted for a simple plate of scrambled eggs and ordered a side of smoked trout. All hail the almighty smoked fish! Winchester’s version is a divine marriage of sweet and salty and had all of us already drooling over the prospect of Winchester’s smoked trout sandwich. And the smoked trout caesar salad! The Winchester Chicago Avocado Toast Shaheen ordered the heart-healthy avocado toast. The Winchester whips their avocado spread with grapefruit and chili notes and serves it with whole grain toast. The bright, guacamole-flavor rivals that of my beloved Le Pain avocado toast. Give me a gigantic tub of Winchester’s Avocado spread and I’d be set for life!
